2. The Downton Tea Party Experience, Mullingar

Not just your average tea party ladies, the Downton Tea Party is a hilarious mix of downstairs busyness and mischief, and upstairs posh and naughtiness. It’s based in Mullingar and the experience includes dressing up as the maids to do some of the household “chores” as well as have a chamber pot race, set the table or light the fire under the watchful eye of the (dashing) butler. After the maid experience, the party moves upstairs to the dressing room and everyone changes to evening attire, to become ladies. Have fun and giggles taking yourselves back to a bygone era. It’s then upstairs to the drawing room for some parlour games, a traditional dance and of course, get a few photos taken for the society pages. An impressive, traditional afternoon tea is served afterwards the dining room where you have the honour of being the guests at a rather grand party. This is a truly unique afternoon tea party experience and will go down with Downton lovers and anyone who loves something a little random and different.

4. The Westin, Dublin

The Westin offer an afternoon tea party with a twist. Teamed with Hendrick’s Gin, the duo have come together to offer ‘A Most Peculiar Afternoon Tea’ which sounds pretty cool to us. This alternative hen party experience includes a naughty Hendrick’s G & Tea cocktail in a teapot, nice and quirky just how we like it. There are also other cocktails including a Victorian Mojito and of course you can choose your tipple of choice if none of these suit. The food options aren’t the norm either and include prawn cocktail, popcorn panna cotta and toffee popcorn crumble. The Westin also gets a bonus point for being situated bang in the centre of town. Team it with a morning of shopping or sight seeing for a classy hen party afternoon. This one is definitely on the cool list. We especially love the naughty cocktails.

9. DIY Afternoon Tea Party

We’ve always been big fans of hen party DIY. They make for the best hens (albeit they can be a little stressful). If you’re on a tight budget, a DIY afternoon tea party in the rented hen party house or someone’s home is just as good as any of the options above and you get to add your own personal touch, making it extra special for the bride to be and the party guests. You’ll find vintage inspired party supplies here which will bring your party to life including gorgeous paper cups and plates and the prettiest vintage inspired lanterns you have ever seen. For the food, if you aren’t too shy in the kitchen, a few sandwiches are easy to whip up or you can ask the guests to bring along something.

However, if you are heavily involved in the hen party planning itself, you will not want to bring any additional pressure or stress on your lovely self. Don’t be afraid to ask someone to help, order in, or pop to M&S, Tesco or Aldi and pick up some of their party food. Display it on some pretty cake stands and you’re pretty much sorted. Oh So Sweet Occasions also offer a DIY party service where you can rent their gorgeous china tea cups and plates around the south east, Social Bee covers Leinster.
