Truth or Dare is one of those games that can go very right or very, very wrong.
When it goes well, everyone ends up crying with laughter and somebody inevitably reveals a story the rest of the group has never heard before. When it goes badly, somebody is being dared to text an ex while the bride’s mum sits three feet away wondering how the evening got here.
We are very much aiming for the first version.
This hen party Truth or Dare list is made for groups who want funny stories and a little harmless embarrassment without creating a group-chat incident the next morning. Some questions are easy warm-ups, while others are better saved until everyone has settled in and stopped pretending to be sensible.
Pick the prompts that suit your bride and skip anything that does not feel right for the group. The game should get louder as it goes on, not increasingly uncomfortable.
Truth or Dare at a glance
Players: 4+
Prep: Almost none
Time: Around 20 to 40 minutes
Drinks: Completely optional
Read this first: The aim is to embarrass people just enough that everyone laughs. Not enough that somebody starts checking train times home.
The rules
How to Play Truth or Dare at a Hen Party
There really are not many rules, which leaves much more room for chaos.
Get everyone settled somewhere they can actually hear each other. A sofa works brilliantly, as does the hotel room floor once everybody has abandoned any attempt at sitting elegantly.
Choose somebody to go first and ask the all-important question: Truth or Dare?
If they choose Truth, pick a question from one of the sections below. If they go for Dare, give them a challenge and let the entertainment begin.
Once they have answered or completed it, move on to somebody else. You can work your way around the group in order, but there is no need to run this like an organised sporting event. If somebody suddenly has the perfect question for the bride, let them have their moment.
And yes, people are allowed to pass. Nobody should have to defend their refusal in front of twelve people and a bottle of prosecco.
One rule I would actually enforce
If somebody says no to a dare, move on. No chanting. No guilt trip. No “go onnnnn” for five straight minutes.
The game gets much funnier when people know they can relax.

Dares We Would Skip
Some dares sound funny when you read them online. In real life, they mostly make everybody uncomfortable.
I would skip anything involving calling an ex.
I would also leave strangers out of it. Nobody needs to be pressured into kissing someone or bothering people outside the group for the sake of a game.
If a dare could damage a friendship tomorrow morning, it is not worth five minutes of laughter tonight.
Keep it comfortable
How to Play Truth or Dare With a Mixed-Age Hen Party
Yes, you can absolutely play this with mums and aunties in the room.
Stay with the funny truths at first. The bride questions also work well because they keep the focus on the celebration.
For dares, choose silly performances rather than anything flirty.
You can even let everyone choose between two prompts. That gives people an easy way to avoid a topic without making a big deal of it.
The funniest mixed-age games are usually the ones where different generations start telling stories about themselves anyway.
You may learn more about Auntie Susan than you planned to.
Quick answers
Hen Party Truth or Dare FAQs
For the questions that appear approximately five minutes before you start playing.
Is Truth or Dare a good hen party game?
Yes. It is especially good when you need an easy game that requires very little preparation.
It also works well after dinner or during a relaxed evening at your accommodation.
How many people do you need?
You can technically play with three people, but four or more gives you much more variety.
Larger groups work too. Just do not feel that every single person has to complete the same number of turns.
How long should you play?
Twenty to forty minutes is plenty for most hen parties.
If everyone is still laughing, carry on. If the energy starts fading, move to something else.
Do you need alcohol?
No.
Truth or Dare works perfectly well without drinking. The prompts are the game.
What happens if someone refuses a dare?
Let them choose another one or switch to a Truth.
No explanation required.
Can the bride make her own prompts?
Absolutely, although I would let the hens contribute too. Half the fun is the bride having no idea what is coming.
Can you play this at a hen party sleepover?
Yes. It is actually one of the best settings for it because everybody is already sitting together and relaxed.
If that is the kind of weekend you are planning, our guide to planning the perfect hen party sleepover has ideas for creating the rest of the evening too.
The Golden Rule of Hen Party Truth or Dare
By the end of the game, you should know slightly too much about everybody in the room.
That is sort of the point.
The good prompts are the ones that lead to stories nobody expected to hear. The best dares create photos the bride will laugh at tomorrow.
Keep it playful. Let people pass.
And if someone says, “I cannot believe I just admitted that,” you are probably playing it correctly.
