So instead of throwing another list of “popular hen do destinations” at you, we've compared 10 UK hen party cities by cost, nightlife, group size and overall vibe.
Because choosing the right city is less about where everyone else is going and much more about where your group will actually have a good time.

We're treating these as realistic planning ranges for a two-night UK hen weekend, not package prices.
We're imagining shared accommodation, food, drinks, one main paid activity, local transport and a little room for the extras that somehow multiply once you're actually there.
Travel to the city isn't included because someone coming from Glasgow and someone coming from Birmingham are obviously going to have very different train or flight costs.
And we're not assuming you've booked a penthouse, a private chef and enough personalised merchandise to open your own Etsy shop.
Worth knowing: your dates matter enormously. Festivals, football matches, concerts, bank holidays and major events can completely change accommodation prices. Use these numbers to compare cities, then price your actual weekend before promising the group a total.

1. Liverpool
If we had to choose one city that understands the assignment, Liverpool would be very difficult to beat.
It has the nightlife, the restaurants, the activities and that very important hen-party quality of not making a group of 12 women feel remotely unusual.
You can do brunch and cocktails, spend the afternoon doing an activity, head back to get ready and then have a genuinely big night out without spending half the weekend travelling across the city.
Why Liverpool Works So Well for Groups
Liverpool is lively without requiring London money, and there are enough different places to go out that you're not stuck with one version of a night.
It also works particularly well for the classic Friday-to-Sunday format. You can have the relaxed arrival night, make Saturday the main event and still find somewhere good for the slightly fragile Sunday lunch.
And if the bride wants the kind of weekend where everyone gets properly dressed up and there's absolutely no question that this is a hen party, Liverpool is very comfortable with that energy.
Choose Liverpool if: the bride wants a lively, classic hen weekend and you've got a medium-to-large group.
Maybe skip it if: her dream weekend is more spa robes and countryside walks than bars and dancing.
2. Manchester
Manchester is what we'd choose when the group cannot agree on what kind of hen they're actually having.
One person wants cocktails. Another wants a big club night. Someone wants shopping. The bride's sister wants a nice dinner where everyone can hear each other speak.
Manchester can do all of that without having an identity crisis.
Why Manchester Is Such a Safe Bet
The big advantage is variety. You can build a very party-heavy weekend, but you don't have to. There are restaurants, bars, live entertainment, shopping and plenty of daytime activities, so a mixed-age or mixed-energy group is much easier to please.
It's also useful when you've got a few people who are joining for only part of the weekend. Nobody has to commit to the exact same experience from Friday afternoon until Sunday lunchtime.
For us, Manchester is one of the easiest cities to recommend when the bride hasn't given you one very specific brief.
Choose Manchester if: you need a city with enough variety to keep several different personalities happy.
Maybe skip it if: the bride specifically wants a quaint, compact or seaside hen weekend.
3. Newcastle
If your priorities are nightlife, fun and not spending half the wedding budget before the wedding has even happened, Newcastle deserves serious consideration.
This is probably our favourite option for a group that wants a proper night out while still trying to keep the overall weekend sensible.
Why Newcastle Is Our Value Pick
The key word is balance.
You can still do brunch, cocktails, an activity and a big Saturday night, but you have a better chance of keeping the total manageable than you would in somewhere like London.
That's especially important when the bridal party has different budgets. Nobody wants to spend the entire weekend wondering whether ordering another cocktail is financially irresponsible.
Newcastle also works well for larger groups who don't want every restaurant booking to feel like they're organising the seating plan for a small wedding.
Choose Newcastle if: you want strong nightlife and good value for a medium or larger group.
Maybe skip it if: the bride wants a quiet, polished or spa-heavy weekend.
Hotel or House? Don't Automatically Assume You Need a Hotel
For a smaller hen group, city-centre hotel rooms are often incredibly convenient.
But once you're planning for 10, 12 or 15 people, a house can completely change the weekend.
You get a living room where everyone can actually sit together, a kitchen for drinks and breakfast, somewhere to play games, and a lot less knocking on six different hotel-room doors asking whether everyone is ready yet.

Edinburgh Is Particularly Good for a Mixed Weekend
You can have a very civilised afternoon and a very uncivilised Saturday night.
Both things can be true.
That's part of the appeal. You aren't choosing a destination where the only real selling point is nightlife.
The trade-off is cost. Accommodation can get expensive, particularly around major events and busy periods, so this is one where I'd lock down dates and compare rooms early.

5. Brighton
Brighton is what happens when you want a city hen but also want to see the sea.
You've got brunch, bars, shops, beach time and nightlife, but the weekend feels noticeably different from Manchester or Liverpool simply because you're by the coast.
On a sunny weekend, it is very difficult not to feel like you've made an excellent decision.
The Weather Can Change the Entire Weekend
A warm Brighton hen can mean beach time, drinks outside and spending half the afternoon near the water.
A wet one is... Brighton with more indoor cocktails.
Still survivable.
And Yes, This Is Where We'd Consider a Boat Day
If the bride wants one proper daytime activity, being on the coast gives you an obvious option.

6. Bristol
Bristol is one of our favourite options for a bride who wants fun but doesn't necessarily want the weekend to scream HEN DO!!! from 9am on Friday.
It's got good nightlife, restaurants, bars and plenty to do, but it feels slightly less predictable than some of the classic hen destinations.
It Works Really Well for the “Just Give Me a Great Girls' Weekend” Bride
You can still do the sash, games and big night out if that's your thing.
But Bristol also works if the bride would rather spend Saturday eating somewhere great, wandering around, having cocktails and then seeing where the night takes you.
There's less pressure to turn every hour into a specifically branded hen-party experience.
Choose Bristol if: the bride wants good nightlife and a city with a slightly more relaxed, alternative feel.

7. York
York is for the hen who would genuinely be thrilled by afternoon tea and cocktails.
And we mean that as a compliment.
This isn't where we'd send the bride who has requested three clubs and a 4am finish. But for a smaller group that wants pubs, restaurants, pretty surroundings and a weekend where everyone can actually talk to each other, York makes a lot of sense.
We Like York for Mixed-Age Groups Too
If mums, sisters, cousins and friends are all coming, you sometimes need a destination that doesn't make anybody choose between “go clubbing” and “sit alone at the hotel”.
York gives you enough daytime and evening options to build something that feels special without exhausting everyone.
Choose York if: you've got a smaller or mixed-age group that wants food, drinks and a pretty city break.

8. Birmingham
Birmingham might not be the city everybody immediately starts sending heart-eyes emojis about.
But don't write it off.
For a group travelling from different parts of the country, location matters. A city that everybody can actually reach without a six-hour journey and two annual-leave days has a lot going for it.
The Practical Choice Can Still Be a Really Good Hen
Birmingham has restaurants, bars, nightlife, shopping and activities, so you're not sacrificing the weekend just because you've chosen somewhere sensible.
And there's something to be said for everyone arriving at roughly the same time instead of spending Friday evening receiving updates from somebody trapped on a train three counties away.
If logistics are already getting complicated, Birmingham can take one problem off your plate.
Choose Birmingham if: your group is travelling from all over and you want good nightlife without making the journey the hardest part of the hen.
Maybe skip it if: the bride really wants the destination itself to feel like a special getaway.
9. Bath
Bath is for the bride who has already made it very clear that she is not doing a pub crawl.
We're thinking spa time, nice lunch, cocktails, dinner and an outfit that was selected with more care than “whatever survives being spilled on”.
A Very Different Kind of Hen Weekend
This is exactly why Bath deserves to be on the list.
Not every bride wants the loudest possible weekend. For some groups, sitting around in robes for part of Saturday and then getting properly dressed up for dinner is the dream.
Bath tends to suit smaller groups especially well because you can lean into restaurants, spa bookings and a slower itinerary without having to coordinate 15 people.
The catch is that the polished version of a hen weekend isn't necessarily the cheap version. Accommodation and spa treatments can push the budget up, so agree on the level of luxury before everyone gets carried away.
Choose Bath if: the bride wants spas, food, cocktails and a more relaxed weekend.
Maybe skip it if: half the group has already packed their clubbing shoes.
10. London
London is the destination where the answer to:
“Can we do...?”
is almost always yes.
Bottomless brunch? Obviously.
West End show? Yep.
Afternoon tea? Of course.

The Problem Is That London Will Happily Spend Your Money for You
Accommodation is only the beginning.
Then you've got meals, cocktails, transport and activities that can easily cost more than they would elsewhere.
That's why we'd particularly recommend London for a smaller group or for hens who genuinely have a healthier budget.
Trying to move 16 people across London for three reservations in three different areas is also not how we'd personally choose to spend our Saturday.
Don't Over-Plan It
This is one of the biggest London mistakes.
You do not need six activities just because six thousand activities exist.
Pick an area. Pick one main thing. Book a good dinner. Let the city do some of the work.
Choose London if: the bride wants endless choice and the group is comfortable spending a little more.
Maybe skip it if: you've got a very large group or several guests already worried about the budget.
So, Which UK Hen Party Destination Is Actually Best?
We know this answer is slightly annoying, but there isn't one city that wins for everybody.
A group of 15 twenty-somethings looking for two big nights out does not need the same destination as a group of seven planning spa treatments and a very good dinner.

If the group wants to properly go out but still cares about the total, Newcastle is difficult to ignore.

The easiest city on this list when your group wants several completely different things from the weekend.
Best seaside hen: Brighton

Don't Pick the City Before You Know the Budget
This is where so many hen plans go sideways.
The maid of honour finds an amazing house.
The bride loves it.
Three people emotionally commit to the idea.
Then somebody finally asks what everyone can afford.
Bestie.

Ask this first: “What is the maximum you'd genuinely feel comfortable spending for the whole weekend, including travel?”
That's a much more useful question than asking whether everyone is “okay with £400”.

This matters far more than people realise.
A city can be absolutely brilliant for six people and exhausting for 16.
For 12+ hens
We'd look closely at Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham. Larger groups fit naturally into the weekend and you've got plenty of accommodation and activity options.
For around 6–10 hens
You're in the sweet spot. Almost every destination in this guide becomes workable, so you can choose much more heavily based on the bride's personality.
For around 4–6 hens
This is where York, Bath, Edinburgh and London become particularly attractive. Smaller groups can take advantage of restaurants, cocktail bars, boutique hotels and spontaneous plans much more easily.
