What Is the Mr & Mrs Quiz?
A very simple game with a remarkable ability to expose who really made the first move.
The Mr & Mrs Quiz tests how well two people really know each other.
Before the hen party, someone asks the bride’s partner a selection of questions and saves the answers. During the party, the bride is asked those same questions.
Whenever her answer matches, she earns a point.
Whenever it does not, the room gets a story.
You can collect the partner’s answers in writing, but video is usually much more entertaining. The awkward pause before an answer can be just as funny as the answer itself.
Worth knowing: You do not need to ask all 150 questions. That would turn the hen party into an exam, and the bride may eventually stage a walkout.
Set it up
How to Play the Mr & Mrs Quiz
A little preparation now saves you from scrolling through 47 voice notes later.
Choose one person to organise the quiz. This is often the Maid of Honour, but anyone trustworthy can do it.
The trustworthy part matters because the organiser will have the partner’s answers before the bride does.
Pick around 15 to 25 questions for a normal game. That gives you plenty of material without holding the group hostage for the entire evening.
Send the questions to the partner in advance. Ask them to answer honestly rather than trying to help the bride win.
At the party, sit the bride somewhere everyone can see her. Read out the first question and let her answer before revealing what her partner said.
If the wording is slightly different but the meaning is clearly the same, give her the point. Nobody came for strict marking.
A scoring system that will definitely not cause arguments
One point: The answers match.
Half a point: The answers are close enough to start a debate.
No point: They appear to be describing two different relationships.
Bonus point: The bride predicts the exact dramatic way her partner tells the story.

What You Need to Play
You can run the whole game from your phone, but a little preparation will save you from trying to find Question 17 while everybody stares at you.
Quick host checklist

If the party is taking place in a large room, bring a small speaker. Recorded answers lose some of their magic when only the bride can hear them.
Download the videos before the party. Do not place your faith in rented cottage Wi-Fi. It has ruined stronger plans than this.
How to Record the Partner’s Answers
A polished recording is not necessary. In fact, slightly awkward is often better.
Ask the partner to sit somewhere quiet and hold the phone steady. They should repeat each question before answering so the clips still make sense if you play them separately.
For example:
“Who made the first move? Definitely her. She will say it was me, but everybody knows the truth.”
Keep comments like that in the final edit. That is where the game gets good.
Do not cut out every pause either. Silence can be evidence.
Bestie tip: Ask the partner to record a short message for the bride at the end. After half an hour of exposing her habits, it is only fair to finish with something sweet.

The perfect round for couples who enjoy publicly disagreeing.
These questions work especially well if both people are present.
Give them one shoe each, or use cards with their names on them. Ask the question, then watch them reveal their answers at the same time.
If the partner is not there, simply record their answers in advance.

Save these until later, and know your audience.
If the bride’s aunt is already clutching her pearls, perhaps skip ahead.
The questions do not need to be explicit to feel cheeky. A raised eyebrow and a suspiciously long pause will do most of the work.

Read the room: If the bride looks uncomfortable, move on. A good host protects the mood. She does not demand an answer because it was Question 128.

Mr & Mrs Quiz Tie-Breakers
Keep these hidden until somebody becomes far too invested in the score.
Questions with number answers work well because the closest guess wins. They also give everybody a chance to become wildly overconfident.
- How many dates did you go on before becoming an official couple?
- How many photographs of the two of you are currently on your partner’s phone?
- How many times has your partner mentioned the wedding this week?
- How long did it take your partner to decide what to wear on your first date?
- How many cities or countries have you visited together?
You now have all 150 questions
Please do not ask them all in one sitting unless the bride has personally requested a three-hour interrogation.
Use your judgement
Mr & Mrs Questions Best Left Alone
The game should feel playful. It should not feel like an ambush.
Questions about former partners can become awkward quickly. Money may be sensitive too.
Be very careful with questions about children or fertility. Even when a couple has discussed those topics publicly, the hen party may not be the place to revisit them.
Skip family disagreements. Avoid anything that could reveal a private secret.
If you hesitate before asking a question, that is usually your answer.
Host it well
How to Make the Mr & Mrs Quiz Even Better
A few small choices can turn a decent game into the one everyone remembers.
Choose the best questions, not the most questions
A shorter game with brilliant answers will always beat an endless quiz full of repeats.
Choose questions that reflect the couple. If they have travelled together, ask about trips. If they are always debating food, use the takeaway questions.
Give the bride a few easy points
Do not begin with the most obscure fact her partner has ever mentioned.
Let her build confidence first. Then ask about the first date and watch both versions of events appear.
Let people tell the story
The funniest moment may happen after the answer has been revealed.
If a question starts a brilliant story, do not rush everybody because you still have seventeen questions left.
Do not make every wrong answer a drinking challenge
That becomes tiring very quickly.
Use a small forfeit for one or two special questions. She could tell a story or complete a silly challenge.
Alcohol should always be optional.
Keep the partner’s personality in the video
Do not edit every answer into a perfect sentence.
Leave in the laugh. Keep the nervous pause.
If they say, “She is going to hate me for this,” you absolutely need to keep that part.
Finish with something lovely
End with a romantic question or the partner’s personal message.
After publicly discussing who snores and steals the duvet, the couple deserves a nice ending.
How to Turn It Into a Team Game
The bride does not have to play alone.
Split the guests into small teams and ask them to predict whether her answer will match her partner’s.
Each team earns one point for guessing correctly. Give them another point if they predict the exact answer.
You can also pause before revealing the partner’s video and let each team write down what they think was said.
This works particularly well when the guests know the couple from different parts of their lives. Old school friends may know one version of the bride. Work friends may know a completely different one.
Can You Play Without the Partner Being There?
Yes. That is how the game is usually played at a hen party.
Collect the answers beforehand and bring them with you. Video is great, but written answers still work.
Voice notes are another option. Play each one after the bride answers.
If the partner cannot participate at all, adapt the game. Ask the bride the questions, then let the guests vote on whether they believe her.
It becomes less about matching answers and more about hearing the stories behind them.
Can You Play It at a Bridal Shower?
Absolutely.
Use the easy and romantic sections for a mixed-age group. Leave the naughty questions for another day unless everybody present is genuinely comfortable with them.
You could give each guest a scorecard and ask them to predict how many answers the bride will get right.
The closest guess wins a small prize.

They are very similar.
In the hen party version, the partner usually answers before the event. The bride then tries to match those answers.
In the Wedding Shoe Game, both people answer at the same time by raising a shoe or card.

What should happen when the bride gets an answer wrong?
Nothing has to happen.
The wrong answer may already be funny enough.
You can add a light challenge if the bride enjoys that kind of game, but it should never feel like a punishment.
Should the partner see the questions first?
Yes.
Sending the list in advance gives them time to think and makes the recording much smoother.
Ask them to answer honestly. They are not supposed to help the bride revise.
