Being the hen party obsessives, we are always on the look out for fun and alternative real hen parties to share with you. We came across a colourful beauty in Australia recently. Bang on the bright, colour popping fiesta trend, this party is full of fun ideas for you to consider for the party you are planning for summer.
Meika has kindly shared some of the details with us….
My hen’s party was planned by my 4 lovely bridesmaids lead by one fantastic Maid of Honour. Although we travelled to Bali as a group of 12 girls for my Bali hens a month earlier staying in amazing luxury villas, visiting day spas and partying, the girls planned me an amazing hens party at home in Perth the week before the wedding with all of my friends and family.
I was not involved at all for either hens party preparations. Although I knew the date, it was all a big surprise which is tricky because I am a planner! The theme was Mexican Fiesta! Quite fitting because I love Mexican food, tequila and bright colours! We spent a fabulous night at Motel Mexicalo and La Favela in Bali drinking tequila and cocktails, indulging in an authentic Mexican banquet and dancing the night away. So it was very exciting to find out that the theme was carried over to the Perth hens too.
On the morning of my hens in Perth I got ready wearing an Alice Mccall dress my now husband had purchased me for Christmas specifically to wear on the day. It fitted the fun and girly theme perfectly. One of my bridesmaid’s picked me up and I was driven blindfolded to a secret location. When I arrived at the party I had to walk down some pretty scary steps without
looking but it was all worth it for the big reveal: a roof covered in bright papel picada flags, fresh flowers everywhere, pinatas, delicious afternoon tea of healthy and not so healthy options and all of the special ladies in my life! I was also given a gorgeous flower crown to wear by my bridesmaids. I was so happy to not have to wear a tacky sash or find any naughty straws at the party because I wanted a fun day with my girlfriends and not to feel awkward. They nailed it. (and Bali was a better place to go wild like that haha). I had made pom pom crowns for myself and my bridesmaids so they felt special but of course, wore my flower crown for the whole day because it was stunning.
During the high tea party of the day we drank punch and champagne, played games and ate finger food. Into the evening we drank tequila, ate from a taco buffet filled with pulled meats, salads, guacamole and Mexican condiments, danced to Beyonce and at 9pm a party bus arrived to take us out to a bar in the city.
The games we played and novelties…
Paper plate drawing
Everyone had to put a paper plate on top of their head and draw a picture of me on my wedding day without looking. I chose the winner. This was a lot of fun and you could change the drawing to anything you like …
Blind folded again, I had first go at smashing the piñatas and I was terrible. One of my bridesmaids took over and she was MUCH better.
Everyone wrote a memory they shared with me. I pulled them out of a hat and had to guess who wrote it. If I got it wrong I had to drink. This was played later in the evening so some funny memories came out.
Pin the beard on Ben
My hipster husband is pretty proud of his healthy beard! This doubled as a photo prop as lots of photos were also taken of bearded ladies during the night.
Bride and Groom Q&A
My bridesmaids interviewed my husband about all sorts of things, future plans, number of kids etc. This was the clean version. We played a naughtier version in Bali but the girls had filmed this one. Every time a question was asked they paused the video, I responded, then the video answer was played. It was really funny to watch Ben’s reactions in the video. Check out The Hen Planner’s favourite Mr and Mrs Questions here.
All of the girls had 30 seconds to bite a milk arrowroot biscuit into the shape of a penis and I got to judge the winner. This could be played in as cleaner version too…
