Autumn hen parties are elite for outfits. Think ivory satin, cosy bride jumpers, burgundy dresses, deep plum co-ords and enough layers to stop everyone freezing outside the bar. Here’s what to wear if you want to look cute without regretting your outfit by 9pm. 🍂🤍

There is something about an autumn hen party that makes getting dressed so much more fun. The colours get richer, satin suddenly makes sense again, and you can actually build an outfit without spending half the evening wondering why you trusted September enough to leave the jacket at home.
The tricky bit is that autumn can mean anything from a surprisingly warm afternoon to an October evening where everyone is suddenly sharing one coat outside the bar.
So, if you're wondering what to wear to an autumn hen party, we've pulled together ideas for the bride and the rest of the hens that work with the season rather than fighting it. There are proper going-out looks, cosy outfits for the slower bits of the weekend and plenty of options for anyone who would quite like to wear trousers, thank you very much.
And no, the bride does not have to spend the entire weekend in a white mini dress. 🤍
What Should the Bride Wear to an Autumn Hen Party?
First things first: wearing white is optional.
We love a bridal white moment, obviously, but autumn gives you a little more room to play. Ivory satin feels gorgeous at this time of year, while proper knitwear finally gets its moment once the temperature starts dipping.
The best outfit really depends on what you've actually got planned.
1. Ivory Satin for Dinner and Drinks
If the hen starts with a lovely dinner and somewhere fancy afterwards, ivory satin is ridiculously pretty for autumn.
It still gives you that unmistakably bridal feel, but it's softer than stark white and looks beautiful next to all those deeper autumn shades. We particularly like separates because you get the polished look of a dress without feeling as though you've accidentally arrived at your own rehearsal dinner.
Here we've paired the Ghost Edina Ivory V-Neck Blouse with the matching Lyra Ivory Satin Midi Skirt.
2. A Blazer Dress That Still Feels Fun
A white blazer dress is practically made for an autumn bride. You still get the little-dress moment, but you aren't asking bare shoulders to survive weather that has done absolutely nothing to earn your trust.
The lace on the Boohoo Lace Hem Structured Blazer Dress keeps all that tailoring from feeling too corporate and gives it a much softer bridal finish.
3. The Bride To Be Jumper
Not every part of the weekend needs heels.
Our Bride To Be Jumper is one of those pieces that makes an outfit feel bridal without requiring much effort. Try it with a mini skirt and tights once it gets chilly, or wear it with jeans when the plans are a little more relaxed.
Knee-high boots would make this especially cute for October.
4. The Off Duty Bride
There comes a point on every hen weekend when the bride needs to be allowed to wear something soft.
Our Off Duty Bride Sweatshirt was basically made for travel days, coffee runs and those slow mornings where everybody is trying to work out who ordered another round.
Wear it with leggings or relaxed trousers, then add cosy boots. You're still very clearly the bride, but you're also very clearly not putting a corset back on before noon.
5. A Bride Sweatshirt With a Little Sparkle
If plain bridal loungewear feels a little too sensible, the Boohoo Bride Diamanté Oversized Sweatshirt sits nicely in the middle.
It's comfortable enough for a relaxed autumn weekend, but the diamanté detail keeps it firmly out of normal Sunday-sweatshirt territory.
Autumn Hen Party Outfits for Guests
Now for everyone else.
Autumn hen outfits don't have to mean putting the whole group in matching black dresses while the bride wears white. This is actually one of the nicest seasons for choosing a colour palette and letting everybody interpret it their own way.
Think burgundy and chocolate, then bring deeper plum into the mix as the weather gets cooler. The photographs still feel coordinated, but nobody has to buy the same dress.
6. Burgundy Satin Is Basically Autumn's Answer to Pink
If you're picking one colour for an autumn hen group, burgundy is very hard to beat.
It looks gorgeous beside an ivory bride and immediately feels right for the season. This burgundy satin cowl midi dress is particularly good for dinner or cocktails where you want to look properly dressed up without going full party dress.
7. Or Make Burgundy a Little More Night Out
Same colour family, completely different mood.
The burgundy corset satin mini makes more sense when you're heading somewhere that definitely involves dancing.
This is where a loose dress code works brilliantly. Give everybody the colour instead of one exact item and let them choose what actually suits them.
The pictures still work. Nobody has to dress like a clone.
8. Chocolate Brown Deserves a Place on the Hen Weekend
Chocolate brown is one of those colours that makes almost anything look more expensive than it is, and autumn is exactly when it gets to shine.
We love this PrettyLittleThing combination because the floral texture keeps all the brown interesting without suddenly looking summery. The corset and skirt are sold separately, so you can also rewear either piece without needing the full matching look.
9. Deep Plum for the Hen Who Doesn't Want a Dress
Can we please normalise trousers for hen nights?
A dramatic wide-leg pair can look every bit as dressed up as a mini dress, especially once autumn evenings start getting properly cold.
This deep plum tailored wide-leg trouser co-ord gives you plenty of drama without needing to cover the entire outfit in sequins.
10. The Casual Chocolate Co-ord
This is the outfit for the parts of the hen weekend that somehow get forgotten while everybody is planning Saturday night.
You still need something for travelling or breakfast, and there's always a chance somebody has organised an activity where a satin midi would be completely ridiculous.
A chocolate brown wide-leg trouser co-ord gives you the comfort of loungewear without looking as though you've actually come downstairs in your pyjamas.
Cosy Autumn Hen Party Looks
The UGG Moment
For a cottage weekend or daytime wandering somewhere chilly, cosy boots earn their suitcase space very quickly.
The UGG Classic Ultra Mini Boot works particularly well with leggings, denim or a bridal sweatshirt when you're doing the casual bit of the weekend.
They're not what we'd pair with your satin dinner outfit, obviously. For the 10am coffee mission after said satin dinner outfit, however, different story.
Let One Bridal Accessory Do the Work
Sometimes the best hen outfit isn't really a hen outfit at all.
Wear the jeans you already love and add your favourite knit, then finish it with our In My Bride Era Corduroy Cap. Suddenly it feels bridal without looking as though every accessory in the hen cupboard has been worn at once.
Don't Forget the Getting-Ready Outfit
The getting-ready bit deserves an outfit too, especially if you're taking photos before everybody heads out.
Our Silk-Feel Feather Sleep Robe & Camisole Set gives you that proper bridal morning feel without sitting around in your evening outfit while somebody is still curling their hair.
What Should the Bridesmaids Wear?
If you do want the group coordinated, that still doesn't mean everybody needs an identical dress.
Our Bridesmaid T-Shirt works nicely for the first day of the trip or a daytime activity. Let everyone style theirs with their own jeans and jackets so the group feels pulled together without looking like a uniform.
What to Wear in September, October & November
September is the wildcard. You could get glorious sunshine or spend the whole weekend saying, “I thought it was supposed to be warm.”
For an early September hen, lighter fabrics still work beautifully. Satin dresses are fair game, and you can normally get away with bringing a jacket instead of building the whole outfit around staying warm.
By October, layers become much more useful. This is when the Bride To Be jumper really comes into its own and boots start making far more sense during the day.
A November hen needs a little more commitment to the season. Bring the coat and wear the tights. Nobody has ever won an award for shivering attractively outside a cocktail bar.
What Shoes Should You Wear?
Plan around the itinerary rather than the Pinterest board.
If you're walking around a city during the day, wear the trainers or cosy boots. If you're heading straight to dinner and aren't going to spend hours wandering between venues afterwards, that's when heels become much more reasonable.
And if you are wearing heels on a proper night out, put flats somewhere in the group's bag. Future you deserves rights too.
The Easiest Autumn Hen Party Colour Palettes
You don't need everybody in exactly the same outfit to make the group look pulled together.
An ivory bride surrounded by burgundy is gorgeous for September and October. If you want something softer and more fashion-led, ivory with chocolate brown works beautifully instead.
Once the season gets darker, ivory with deep plum gives you that richer autumn feeling without accidentally becoming a Christmas-party dress code.
The easiest way to do it is to choose the colour direction and let everybody interpret it. Your friend who loves dresses gets her dress, while the one who hasn't willingly worn one since 2019 can arrive in a fabulous trouser set.
So, What Should You Actually Pack?
Start with the itinerary rather than trying to make one outfit somehow survive the entire weekend.
You want something comfortable for travelling and the daytime plans, then your proper going-out look can have its moment later. Bring a warm layer that actually works with the outfits you've packed rather than grabbing the first enormous coat you find beside the door.
The bride can mix obvious bridal pieces with clothes she already loves, while the hens can work from a shared autumn palette instead of matching head to toe.
Because ultimately, the best autumn hen party outfit is the one that makes you feel really good when the photos start, but doesn't have you whispering “I'm absolutely freezing” through your smile five minutes later. 🍂🤍
