Given the month that’s in it we thought we’d try something new here and mix the ideas up a little with the Saints and Sinners Hen. This is the hen for those of you that have more than a passing interest in the outdoors but still know how to party hard. Fear not, we will make sure we cater for those of us less used to getting our heart rates up off the dancefloor too! There’s always a spot for an eager cheer squad at our parties.
Here are our top picks for hitting the hot spots at night and burning off the damage during daylight hours, for all you saints and sinners.
The nightlife speaks for itself, great food and really busy lively pubs both day and night. Activity wise it can be as mild or full on as you like with zorbing at Westport House or, for the brave among us, burning off the excesses of the night before climbing Croagh Patrick.
Hen Planner Tip. We strongly advise zorbing as a pre drinking activity, we have heard it compared to being inside a washing machine, great fun in the whole of your health but hard work the morning after.
Swimming at the Forty Foot, climbing Howth Head, boating in Dublin Bay, or for something a little different check out wakeboarding in Dublin’s Docklands. Reward your virtue with a night of cocktails and decadence.
Hen Planner Tip. We love the rooftop at Sophie’s at The Dean Hotel. The Marker Hotel is great in the summer and the Chelsea Drugstore is the newest cocktail hotspot in town.
Co Clare has it all. Surfing, golfing or walking the Burren by day and really great night life on tap. Head for the Aran Islands for a cycling weekend with great food and pints to reward your efforts.
Hen Planner Tip. You can’t beat Doolin for the craic and you can clear the cobwebs at the surf school in Lahinch.
Want to really go for it? Check out www.runamuckchallenge.com. You’re guaranteed to get destroyed but fear not, they have two levels of course so you can take it a little easier if you wish. Not sure it’s for everyone? There’s always a role for cheerleaders, paparazzi and someone to have the flasks of hot punch waiting at the finish line.
Hen Planner Tip. Make sure you book a nice Spa Hotel with cocktails to reward your efforts.
Get away from it all with a yoga weekend in beautiful surroundings at Coolatin Lodge This is a great option for a gang who know how to make they’re own fun as it’s a catered dinner, BYOB weekend in the heart of the countryside. It offers exclusivity in quaint cottages with a gorgeous function room to party the night away.
Hen Planner Tip. What goes on tour….
Think we’re taking this January thing too seriously?! If you can tolerate the January fitness buzz but don’t really fancy getting sweaty on a hen weekend, plan your party around a horse racing or rugby weekend to get that slightly virtuous sporty feeling without risking the manicure. Several race courses around Ireland are offering hen packages and as for the rugby, has there ever been a better night to hit the town in Dublin for a gang of girls than an international rugby weekend? Eye candy!
Happy planning ladies. We love hearing your ideas so feel free to share them below x
