If you’re planning a hen for a film fanatic, then there is no better place to look that to the movies for lots of inspiration for fun hen activities and themes. Read this post, Popcorn and prosecco! Movie inspired hen party ideas for all the inspiration you need!
For a cosy and cool hen activity, why not organise a screening of the Bride to be’s favourite movie. Whether it’s a sing along a la Dirty Dancing or Mamma Mia, a hen themed flick like Bridesmaids or a modern classic like, ahem, Magic Mike, there are lots of gorgeous boutique and private cinemas than can be hired for hens.
Brooks Hotel on Drury Street in Dublin 2 has a 26 seater private cinema for hire, with comfy leather chairs and fresh popcorn provided. Tropical Popical recently threw a themed party in Brooks cinema, with an evening watching Disney’s the Little Mermaid, where the crew came in their matching onesies. As a bonus, it’s a stone’s throw from some of Dublin’s best bars for pre or post show cocktails.
The Denzille Private Cinema on Denzille lane in Dublin 2 is another city centre private cinema and event venue specialist with room for up to 30 hens and they can provide whatever goodies or drinks you need to keep the hens happy.
Down in the Docklands, the Gibson hotel has private in house cinema facilities, where we recently enjoyed watching the Devil Wears Prada, and drinking Gin and Tonics afterwards on their roof terrace bar.
The Stella cinema in Rathmines is a gorgeous retro glam cinema with an equally glam cocktail bar on site and some of the comfiest cinema seats ever. There’s even the option of watching your movie from a bed. Private hire is available, but even their weekly boozy brunch screenings are a great option to kick-start your hen, recent Saturday afternoon screenings include Ten Things I hate about You, Mean Girls and Romy and Michelle’s High School reunion.
In nearby Ranelagh, the Stella has recently opened a smaller cinema in the super cool Devlin hotel, which you could check out before cocktails and dancing in their new rooftop bar Laylas.
If the hen you are planning, coincides with a blockbuster or new release that all the gals want to check out, get in touch with the nearest omniplex. Many chain cinemas such as IMC, Odeon and Omniplex, can facilitate private events and screenings of new movies, so it’s worth checking their availability aswell.
If you’re giving the gals a hen goodie bag (which is always a winner in our book!), take the opportunity to leave them on their cinema seat, filled with lots of edible treats to enjoy during the show, such as maltesers for their popcorn (just us?), mini marshmallows, retro candy or whatever the bride to be’s signature sweet is. Maybe pack in some movie themed accessories depending on the film choice. Most importantly pack in some mini bottles of prosecco to wash down the popcorn! Check out our store for hen party accessories.
For hens renting self-catering accomodation, turn one of the nights (whether it’s warm up or recovery!) into an old school slumber party and stream a few flicks to the flat screen. Order a few pizzas or whip up some snacks, distribute some face masks, and make sure you have some bride to be Pyjamas for the VIP. If it’s a winter night, light a fire and whip up some spiked hot chocolate or mulled wine for the perfect night in.
Finally, a movie inspired dress code is always a fun theme for a hen, you could opt for a theme inspired by a particular movie, ( e.g. Clueless, Grease, Great Gatsby), or ask all the gals to come dressed as their favourite movie character and let the bride have fun guessing who’s who.
Alternatively you could opt for a Hollywood glam, awards ceremony inspired theme, which is a great excuse for everyone to spend the day getting red-carpet ready in a blow dry bar or getting in a glam squad and getting plenty of paparazzi shots afterwards! You could even pick up some mini trophies (check out Flying Tiger Copenhagen) and give out some awards.
Lights, Camera, Action!
