If you’re looking for a pretty and classy hen party location in Ireland, Kenmore ticks ALL the boxes! Distance wise, it’s ideal if you’re travelling from Cork. It’s probably equal distance to Killarney but it has more of a small town feel. If you’re coming from further afield it’s about 45 minutes from Kerry airport.
For those of you who don’t know Kenmare, it’s a pretty tourist town in South Kerry situated on the Kenmare Bay with beautiful mountain back drop. Kenmare is best for (i) it’s fun nightlife with lots of live music in the local bars, (ii) top class restaurants (for such a small place, it has AMAZING food!) and (iii) outdoor activity options. It has lots of tourist shops to entertain a potter around town. Some weekends can be very popular with other hen and stag groups but other weekends you might have it all to yourself. We have put some nice suggestions below (we have personal connections with the town so you can trust us here ladies!)
Kenmare Hen Party Accommodation
Hotel wise, there is of course the upper end of the scale which we obviously LOVE but aren’t ideal for the average hen party budget. These are The Sheen Falls and The Park Hotel. That said, The Sheen Falls has gorgeous lodges which we highly recommended for both gorgeousness and value (having had Hen Planner wedding here last year we know the venue very well!) They wouldn’t be the right place for a more traditional hen party – the blow up doll and willy straws would not be welcome!
Kenmare is lacking in large self catering houses. There are plenty of smaller houses and cottages available so if your hen party doesn’t fit in to one house, you can get a few houses next to each other. The 4 star lodges at the Kenmare Bay hotel are very popular with hen parties. They’re just outside the town. Self Catering Kenmare might also be able to help you. There are other options within the town itself including The Coachmans and Davitts and of course, a little Airbnb search pulls out a few gems every now and then.
Kenmare Hen Party Restaurants
There are a number of restaurants in the town, some of which attract some well known faces in Ireland. The finest are Packies and Mulcahy’s so if you ladies are into your food, definitely go here. They are more pricey but every foodie will be satisfied.
The Lime Tree is another option for good food and atmosphere. It also has a private dining room which is perfect for your hen party. The staff are lovely and the menu is a fixed price which makes it easy in terms of budget. The private dining room in The Lime Tree is a big plus for a party group. The food is a little hit and miss but the setting and location is perfect.
Bella Vita the Italian is good if you want something a little more relaxed. If food isn’t a big player in the hen party, there are plently more restaurants, pubs, hotels and take-aways to choose from. There is also The Boathouse which is outside the down in Dromquinna. The bar/restaurant is sitting on the Kenmare Bay and is a beautiful setting on a sunny day. You might get to catch a wedding not the day also.
Kenmare Hen Party Activities
Most people who go to Kenmare for a hen party tend to do outdoor sports, cocktail making or a dance class.
However our favourite hen party activities for a low key hen weekend in Kenmare are afternoon tea in The Sheen Falls or The Park Hotel. It’s just a gorgeous experience. Some people think afternoon is dull but it’s such a nice hen party activity. You add some bubbles to spice it up and you can just chat or play a few easy hen party games over the session. It’s an excuse to dress up and experience the finer side of life. The Park Hotel also has an amazing spa for a luxury spa day at The Park Hotel Samus Spa
Calligraphy workshops are the latest trend we’re seeing grow across Ireland and the UK. These are amazingly relaxing and fulfilling. All You Need Is Love in Kenmare have teamed up with some gorgeous Kenmare venues to bring you Calligraphy Workshops for €50pp. This includes all materials (and you can keep your pen afterwards to practice) and prosecoo (which helps with your writing flow – of course!). You can enquire about availability for Calligraphy and book via BASH here. Let’s make handwriting good again! Oh and do you know our princess to be, Meghan Markle is a skilled calligrapher?! She wrote the invites for Robin Thickes wedding and we’re guessing she’ll do her own! We’re new calligraphy converts here at The Hen Planner and we are all for this fun experience.
Chocolate making with Lorge Chocolate is a great experience and we highly recommend. It’s also budget friendly. Benoit the owner of Lorge is fab.
For the more energetic ladies, there are endless active options available in the area. Eclipse Adventures do everything from Adventure sports including Coasteering, Raft Building, Laughter Yoga and Mud Surfing (and also offer accommodation). Check out Star Outdoors for water sports, Finnegan’s Bike Hire to take off on your own cycling hen party adventure and Blackwater Stables or Dromquinna Stables for Horse riding.
So that’s it for our favourite options for a classy hen party weekend in the lovely Kenmare. If you book any of these we’d love to hear about it. We love featuring real hen parties!
