5 cool summer hen party ideas

If you’ve found yourself stepping outside just to breathe in that freshly cut grass, you’re probably aware summer is well and truly here. Yay! And if you’re lucky enough to be planning a hen party over the next few months, be sure to take full advantage of what the great outdoors has to offer. Go on, let the sun shine (even if it’s not quite tropical) and channel some summer lovin’ with these 5 cool hen party ideas.

1. Go glamping

If you’re like me and the thought of roughing it in a sleeping bag in the middle of a muddy field sends shivers down your spine, then glamping could be for you. You still get to gaze up at the stars and munch on some tasty barbeque treats, but at the end of the day there’s a comfy bed waiting for you in your luxury tent or pod. Ahhh bliss. You’ll find lots of gorgeous glampsites around Ireland and the UK.

Hen Planner Tip

If you really want to put the GLAM into glamping, book a flower crown workshop and go boho style for your stay.

2. Open-air cinema

What could be better than watching your favourite chick flick with your besties…doing it outside of course! Pack truckloads of popcorn, lemonade and a big blanket and enjoy some chilled-out fun (onesies optional).

Hen Planner Tip

If you’re thinking of Dublin as a destination, keep your eyes peeled on for pop-up movie screenings coming to parks throughout the city. We can’t wait for ‘Almost Famous’ and ‘Top Gun’, both on the way this summer.

3. Festival roadtrip

Nothing spells lots of laughs like a girly roadtrip (think Thelma and Louise but better!), so why not hit the road to one of the music festivals taking place this summer. From Electric Picnic in Co Laois to The Sea Sessions in Donegal, there is something out there for everyone.

Hen Planner Tip

Sunglasses. Check. Headscarf. Check. ’70s-esque Volkswagen camper van to make this journey one you will never forget? Go for it! Check out

4. Beach party

If a flight to the sun is above the group budget, you can still slip on that oversized hat and your best Penneys bikini and hit the beach this summer. OK it may not quite be Barbados down at your local strand but this is where a bit of imagination and creativity comes into play. Park up some colourful deck chairs, turn on a summer playlist and add a sprinkle of coconuts and cocktails and you’ve got an instant luau.

Hen Planner Tip

If you’re a midlands chick and the beach is a bit of a trek away, why not bring the party to your back garden. You can pick up bags of sand in most children’s toy shops. Add in some funky paper lanterns and let the limbo competition begin!

5. Vintage picnic in the park

Vintage Picnic Hen Party

Food ALWAYS tastes better outside, especially when the sun is shining! So pack your granny’s best picnic basket to the brim with some amazing treats; we’re talking the good stuff here – bubbly, strawberries, chocolate and some cucumber sandwiches for good measure; and have a banquet on the grass. Don’t forget to check out The Hen Planner store for some pretty vintage napkins, plates and cups.

Hen Planner Tip

Why not go all out and dress up for the occasion. Pick a decade and go searching in charity shops for some cool clobber or let Boudoir Girls give you a complete vintage makeover.
